If you’ve been dreaming of a dining escape from the mainland, book a reservation at the Crown Jewel on Great Diamond Island. Open during the season for dinner Wednesday through Friday and lunch and dinner on the weekends, this place is a culinary gem that’s been getting rave reviews since it opened in 2018. It occupies Diamond Cove’s former General Store space (and still offers a few basic provisions) with a spruced-up interior that steeps you in island vibes. The menu is an inspired blend of local and exotic flavors with beyond-par creativity – think Crab Fried Rice with coconut and cashew or Lobster and Papaya Salad.
Since visiting Great Diamond Island requires a boat ride, you won’t want to leave your Crown Jewel visit to chance. The ferry ride from Portland is only 30 minutes; if you are lucky enough to take your boat, you can opt for a combined reservation for dining and slip (or mooring). However you arrive, you’ll be happy you made the trip.
