Women

Meet Jessica Green

What is your name / occupation?

My name is Jessica Green, Master plumber Owner of Green Quality Plumbing and Heating.

What are you known for now, and what would you like to be known for in the future?

I am known as the female plumber and business owner.

What advice would you offer to someone new to Maine hoping to build a life here?

My advice to someone hoping to build a life here would be that if you can think it or dream it then it can happen. Maine is a beautiful place to make your dreams come true.

Maine is known for its work ethic. Do you think that living in such a rural state has shaped the way you approach your career and your goals?

Maine has shaped me to work hard for what I want and to never let the cold dim the light.

Maine is full of strong, independent women—how do you feel connected to the women around you here, whether it’s in your community or your workplace?

I feel connected to the women in Maine by climbing together, working out together and going to groups where women support each other and share aspirations.

If there’s one thing you could change or improve for women in the workforce in Maine, what would it be, and why?

I would like to see more women owned businesses and women led classes, in turn inspiring future young women to take charge.

What advice would you give to young women growing up here in Maine who are dreaming of building careers, perhaps in industries where women are underrepresented?

My advice would be there is nothing that you cannot do. Don’t ever give up and don’t ever stop trying. Quite frankly, if “he” can do it, so can you.

Maine is a place of incredible beauty but also challenging winters. How do you stay motivated during the tough months—when the days are short, and the weather is harsh?

I stay motivated by keeping my goals in front of me and I never stop chasing them. One day the storm might come but that doesn't stop the sun from coming out tomorrow.

With so much focus on family and community in Maine, how do you manage the expectations that come with being a working woman in a small town or rural area?

My community is like my family. I do my best to treat my community like so and I always want to help any way possible.

Looking back on your career, what are you most proud of? What’s the legacy you hope to leave for the next generation of women in Maine?

I am most proud of never giving up and starting my plumbing business. I hope I inspire women to be strong and courageous. The the limit and we are all capable of being successful.
