The Center for Grieving Children

You may remember that I featured The Center for Grieving Children last December, but their work deserves annual mention.

‘Tis the Season for Hope and Love...For most of us, the holidays are a time to spend with family as we gather to enjoy special time and create memories. But for children and families who have experienced the loss of a loved one, the holidays can be a poignant reminder of what’s missing.

Throughout the year, Portland’s Center for Grieving Children is a stalwart resource for children, teens, young adults, and their families as they deal with the effects of loss and grapple with grief. Founded in 1987, the Center was designed to provide a safe and nurturing space that offers peer support, outreach, and education for bereaved children. Since then, it has served more than 66,000 young Mainers experiencing the effects of loss, connecting them with the compassionate support to cope and carry on.

This incredible organization is top of mind (and heart) for me, especially during this time of year. As I hold my family close, I think of those who do not share the same opportunity. During this season, the Center for Grieving Children is a vital beacon of hope and love.
