This headland on the Maine coastline has plenty of beaches, parks (local and state), town-maintained trails, gourmet markets and restaurants. Formerly renowned for farming and fishing, Cape Elizabeth retains some of its agrarian roots through bucolic beauty found in the preservation of its natural environment. One such place is Great Pond Trail, which circles a 40-acre pond. Great Pond Trail is part of over 1,000 acres of space with 15 miles of trails for walking, cycling, and even horseback riding. The town has created these trails and maintains them well.

Alewife's Brook Farm has been in the same family for over 70 years. They have branched out to include a retail market, selling vegetables, pigs, chickens, and turkeys - and although not directly from the farm soil, also provide lobsters! The public schools here are consistently rated in the top ten great schools in Maine.

Portland Head Light, the oldest lighthouse in Maine and arguably the most photographed and painted, is actually located on the grounds of Fort Willams Park in Cape Elizabeth. Cape Elizabeth residents take pride in being part of the gentility of their community. “Cape” is accessible to Portland via the Casco Bay Bridge.
