With highly-rated schools, old and new neighborhoods, sandy beaches with public access, and a myriad of trails, Scarborough is one of Maine’s fastest-growing communities and is part of the Nextdoor Neighborhood Hub “for trusted connections and the exchange of helpful information, goods, and services”, welcoming newcomers.

Scarborough also features a Community Services Department that offers a variety of activities including youth to 55+ programs. Scarborough Marsh, owned and managed by the Maine Department of Inland Fisheries and Wildlife, is the largest salt marsh in Maine. Its 3100 acres offer trails to view a variety of plants, wildlife, and birds, with the final part of the trail ending in a canal that hid ships from the British during the American Revolution. Pine Point Beach features an expanse of soft sand.

The town also owns and maintains Higgins Beach and Ferry Beach. Higgins Beach is wonderful for children, as a spit of beach jutting into the sea creates a salt river, perfect for splashing. At Prouts Neck, a peninsula of Scarborough, one can virtually walk into a Winslow Homer seascape.
