Welcome to Yarmouth

Yarmouth is one of Portland’s commuter communities that actually has a Main Street typical of a smaller town.

The tree-lined street boasts a plethora of small storefront shops, with at least one flower shop, a bookstore, and a gourmet market. With classic homes mostly of the Victorian era, this area defines the perfection of small-town Maine. Beyond Main Street, there are neighborhoods that value what nature has bestowed on this part of the coast. Yarmouth encompasses two island communities, Cousins Island and Littlejohn Island. Though their populations are small, both offer public parks. Just over the bridge to Cousins Island lies Sandy Point Beach.

Yarmouth has some very highly-rated restaurants. Larger supermarkets can be found along Route 1. In July, Yarmouth hosts the very popular Clam Festival, a huge community event that provides an excellent opportunity to meet other volunteers from the town since about 3000 volunteers help at the Festival. The Clam Festival, held every year since 1965 with the exception of 2020 (COVID-19), draws visitors from all over Maine, and from other parts of the northeast. This community-driven, family-centered event supports non-profit organizations that benefit the community.

The Yarmouth school system is consistently among the top ten in the state. Garmin’s Yarmouth location is the research and development center for inReach, satellite communications technology. Eartha, the world’s largest revolving and rotating globe, is open to the public. Residents define Yarmouth as ‘community and kindness’. With Eartha, add culture.
